Mythos of Azernos (Poetics 2)

Happy New Years everyone! 2021, will be a better year for sure – just you wait and see!

I know it’s been a while since I last posted on my blog/website, but I wanted to let you all know that by the end of January I’ll be submitting my synopsis and query letter for my debut Fantasy/Science Fiction novel – Arcanim: Journey of the Foretold Souls.

The cool part? The UK literary agency I’ll be submitting it to has the same team that helped J.K. Rowling with her Harry Potter series. Whether they see my submission this month or next; I know I’ve started down a path that will lead to some exciting memories to come!

In the meantime, here’s an unrelated short story I’ve been working to the follow-up of Mythos of Azernos (Poetics 1). I wanted to share this with you since I know the new year brings about both exciting and exhilarating unforeseen changes for everyone!

Also, if you haven’t read Mythos of Azernos (Poetics 1), you may click anywhere on this sentence to go check that out first!

Without further ado, here’s Poetics 2 from Mythos of Azernos

Poetics 2 (pulled from Mythos of Azernos)

“Has the deed been done?”

“Yes, undoubtedly so.”

“Well then; on this day, the child has been blessed!”

“We can save the celebrations till a later time. For now, we must leave this place. Rome is crawling with suspicious activity; and I have reason to believe there are opposing gods and goddess amidst our presence.”

A mighty empire rested in front of the God of Fortuity. He; alongside the three companions at his side, were now about to make their timely exit. Amongst the trio of companions, were God of Insight, Goddess of Faithfulness, and God of Riddles.

Not surprisingly enough; and at this very moment, the three gods and single goddess were disguised as mortals.

God of Fortuity, otherwise known as Risk; was now disguised as an old and aging man. He was currently hunched over and using the support of a knurled wooden stick. As strange a sight as any, Risk ironically knew that he couldn’t take any chances on this day.

Goddess of Faithfulness, otherwise known as Love, was disguised as a mother.

At her side was God of Riddles, otherwise known as Illusion. He was disguised as a young boy who was throwing a small tantrum and acting a bit feral in nature.

The last of the four gods, was none other than God of Insight, otherwise known as Foresight. Foresight was a strange god, never truly speaking his mind; but always seemingly one-step ahead of all of the other gods and goddesses. Even outsmarting Judgment, God of Ultimate Authority and Rule.

As for Foresight’s disguise, he donned the appearance of a husky and ho-hum merchant who looked like he had better things to do with his time. Troubling enough, there was something a little off about Foresight at the moment, but none of the others could even sense it.

As the four of them walked briskly through the heavily crowded streets; Risk’s eyes gazed over at the wonder and spectacle of it all.

Large spiraling towers made of strange marble jutted out of the somewhat rocky and multi-layered landscape which the City of Rome laid upon. Colossal arches spanning a hundred yards in length, took the attention of any such passerby who happened to be unfettered by their personal matters or intriguing conversations.

But aside from all of the pandering and riff-raff of it all, there was a deepening sense of endangerment. Risk knew all too well that there were many gods and goddesses who were strongly opposed to blessing a half-mortal child with the Light of Blessings.

Before the four gods could make their clean exit, they had to get out of the City of Rome. They had to make sure they were out of the mortal’s eyesight before they could teleport back to Utopira. For the mortals could never witness such godly transpirations.

Of course, amidst their environment, there was in fact a trio of deathly looking elderly women waddling not too far off from them.

“We must follow them with haste!” The old woman with greying and tangled hair communicated this telepathically.

“Do not be deceived, Death. They are keen for certain.”

“Deception; why must you always be so…so…”

“Deceiving? Well, Dread, it is in my nature.”

The three goddesses were revealed to be none other than Deception, Death, and Dread – three goddesses which made quite a ruckus when push came to shove. As mismatched as the trio was; they had made a great team throughout the ages. They had been on countless adventures and journeys throughout the mortal’s world; and their shared history only further cemented the shallow, yet oddly strong, trust they had built together.

While the three hagged looking goddesses followed closely; the four gods they were tailing were coming up to a three-pronged street which veered into windy alleyways.

With a deepened sense of urgency, Love knew she had to act quickly. She was not blinded by the three disguised goddesses following closely behind

Grabbing Risk’s hand, Love beckoned for him to follow her silently.

Risk was about to shout out, but Love brought a delicate finger up to her mouth as she ran in the lead position.

Just as she did, she turned her head slightly sideways and saw it happen.

A group of otherwise uncaring city folk, began to holler and shout as black smog began to rise high into the sky.

At the base of the black smog, we’re the three old looking ladies.

Thinking quickly on her feet, Love contradicted herself as she shouted out loudly now to Insight and Illusion, “We’re being trailed by three witches! We’ll regroup at the usual spot!”

Insight nodded his head as he ran down the right-most alleyway.

Illusion stopped running all-together, as the child-looking god ran towards the unfolding scene.

Risk knew what Illusion would do, so he didn’t question as Love appeared more concerned at Illusion’s uncalled for action.

As Love stood somewhat dumbfounded, Risk hard-headily took charge of running forward while he maintained his grasp on her hand.

Love began to protest slightly as she turned her head fully behind to discourage Illusion, “What’s he thinking!? We can’t blow our cover now, not with war looming so close in our future!”

Risk tugged violently on Love’s arm – knowing full-well that gods and goddesses’ pain tolerance was great. “We can’t be concerned with his actions now, we must away from here as soon as possible. He knows what he’s doing, and I have faith in him. Don’t you?

Love remained silent now as she grunted in discomfort, “Whatever, we don’t have much of a choice at the moment.”

Unfortunately, as Risk and Love darted and wavered through the crowds of stalled and stunned looking on-lookers, the two would not know of Illusion’s exploits for a while longer. But that would be for another tale altogether.

As they ran endlessly through the different streets, thousands of people moved throughout the city today. It was a busy metropolis, full of all levels of material wealth. From the unimaginably rich, to the lowly dirt-poor; Rome’s people were yet still considered the most “civilized” amongst the Earth-bound human beings. Rivaling even some of the best Heaven-bound human settlements; the City of Rome’s people were especially magnificent specimens. Beautiful in physique and natural allure; they had a knack for talking true politics and tales worthy of anyone’s ears.

The City of Rome itself was a glorious and breathtaking place; as it had been so thousands and thousands of years ago. Long before the Age of Machines; Rome had also once been the ruling empire at one point in the past. Such is the workings of history, a cycle never-ending and ever-repeating.

Unlike their heretic neighbors – the Romans were a bountiful people. They prided themselves greatly on the art of war just as much as they did on the art of speech. They understood the difference between a solid victory and a clear defeat. There was no fooling a good Roman, for he who tried to trick one would certainly rue the day he was born unto this unfamiliar and strange world of Earth.

Finally reaching the rigged great plains outside of Rome, Love stopped to catch her breath as she turned her head slightly sideways to look behind them, “What are we going to do now…? The child is certainly in danger. We have little choice, Risk; we must report back to Judgment about this new development.”

Risk, who had raised his hands and placed them behind his head to help him catch his breath, shook his head, “No, that’s something we cannot do. Love, you know better then I that Judgment would condemn you, Riddle, and I. That would, at minimum, mean we’d get at least a century in confinement. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking to make the best of our immortal lives.”

As the two of them looked to each other with swirling thoughts silently shuffling about in their minds, a third unseen voice spoke up now.

“But alas, that kind of fate would be unnecessarily unkind. Neither of you have to make life so difficult.”

Turning his head behind Love; Risk could see a fully robed figure walking towards them.

Without even having seen the figure’s face, Risk could sense an overwhelming power simmering from within this newfound entity. It was doubtlessly a Goddess.

Love soon turned around as well as her golden hair fell across her shoulder. She eyed the Goddess with scrutinizing eyes, “Unveil yourself, Goddess. I don’t trust the words of any hidden ones.”

The figure did not move. She just stood in place as she remained silent.

Risk walked in front of Love, as he openly questioned this new Goddess. “We don’t have much time to waste; what do you want?”

Clearing her throat, the unknown Goddess spoke clearly again, “I prefer to keep my agenda and appearance hidden. But know that I mean no ill will towards the child. He must be protected, especially from the other Gods and Goddesses of our shared realm.”

Extending her hand in kind-gesture, the unknown Goddess lightly shook her head in distraught emotions, “Trust me when I say I just want an end to our discrimination and endless conflict of those half-breed Gods and Goddesses like myself.”

Risk looked to Love and the two seemed a bit shocked. Was this Goddess actually a Half-Goddess? If so, that means they were lied to about the state of affairs down below in the mortal’s realm.

As the Golden Sun of Day afar blazed brightly and descended down – allowing the God of Night to rule once more; Risk and Love knew this moment would change the course of “the child’s” life forevermore. Like the timeless never-ending wheel of fate, they had to make a move now or else be left with no option at all.

With startling conviction, Love moved passed Risk as she made the decision for the both of them, “Tell me, unnamed Half-Goddess; what is it you seek in return for helping us?”

A small chuckle came back from the unknown Half-Goddess, “Nothing, I just want to ensure that we Half-breeds have a fighting chance for the war to come.”

Risk grabbed Love’s arm as he protested, “Love…this is out of our jurisdiction. We cannot play favorites if a war is to break out. We’d be put on trial for certain.”

Love remained silent for a long time as she was halfway between staying by Risk’s side and moving towards this unknown Half-Goddess’ side.

But ultimately, Love did something unexpected.

Breaking away from Risk’s grasp, Love looked sternly at the Half-Goddess as she openly opposed her, “What’s your name? Perhaps we can help you make the case to Judgment. In fact, we may very well grant you an audience with him to plead your case.”

Smiling with a deep underlying sorrow, the once unnamed Goddess surprisingly revealed her identity now, “My name…my name is Nirvana. But unfortunately, I cannot take you up on your offer.”

Taking the robe off fully, the Half-Goddess revealed her physical form as well.

She was stunningly beautiful. With light green hair the color of Mother Nature’s greenery, she looked down in hidden shame now as her beautiful amethyst-colored eyes glanced to Love and Risk, “You must understand, my mother is the Goddess of this world. She would be very displeased to discover I still breath on this world.”

Love and Risk’s eyes grew greatly with hidden fascination as the Half-Goddess spoke her truth.

Like the moving hand of time though, the three of them would soon find themselves facing a different reality. But for now, the each stared at one another with their own stained histories hidden well beneath the surface of their physical forms.

A tragedy was soon to unfold – but on which end either of them would end-up on would be a great mystery for years to come…

Transformation

I feel myself disconnecting from who I am.

Who I am….

Who I…………..was?

I’m beginning to wonder: what’s wrong with me?

Why am I losing pieces of myself?

Why are those pieces floating out of my consciousness like a stream of water flowing downstream at an unimaginably blinding speed?

I see you.

I…..saw you?

I’m beginning to wonder if I’m starting to see you or if I’m beginning to see…….my own reflection?

Like a kaleidoscope of dizzying colors, my once dreary eyes are beginning to see the faint lights of ever-changing fates.

To see the potential of you and I. To feel the winds of unspoken truths caress my face with faulty lies.

I’ve begun to speak in my dreams of feverish nightmares borne of an indifference to what’s going on in our shared world.

I’ve begun to distance myself from who we are meant to be.

I’ve broken our promise.

I’m sorry.

I’m so incredibly sorry.

I feel like I failed who I was meant to be.

And yet…

Yet my future is bright.

What does that even mean?

Why do we cherish those who have “made it”?

One day.

One day, I swear on my very soul.

I will live my truth.

I will change this world, even if for just a flash of a moment.

I will change the collective consciousness of our society for just a second in history.

I will defend the honor of what it means to truly survive and thrive in this world, I will remind myself of why I still breathe.

No doubt the best of humanity dies young; for the old and aging continue to live and support this world full of deception and abuse. I should know, I’m becoming such a thing. Such a creature of the night.

Why haven’t I ended it all for myself?

I don’t feel suicidal. That’s likely the reason why. But still…why am I playing along with this game?

I can’t stop myself either. I’m filled with determination unlike anything of this world. But…why? Why am I so competitive? Why am I so determined? Even though I don’t wish to be, I just am?

Confusing thoughts spiral in my mind as a wave of over-confidence washes over me…or is it doubt?

But I’m not indecisive; though I wish I was at this moment.

I wish I was more confused than I’m playing it out to be.

I wish I could come up with some excuse; some tainted truth.

Thoughts intertwined with hallowed emotions. I don’t actually feel anything at this moment. I’ve become numb. And yet, my heart still beats? It beats with life, with the ever-pulsing rhythm of life.

Why has our world succumb to such devastation and derelict woes?

Why, why, why, why, why, why.

Our voices are drowned out, our opinions are non-existent, and our stories will forever be untold.

The truth will forever glimmer in the moonlit sky like a long-forgotten wish. The truth will flicker as a lone candle does in the dead of night. The truth will be unseen like the silent bird which has no voice to sing. The truth will exist, but only for itself alone. It will never be comforted, never be hugged with delight or cherished for its unique characteristics. It will never be able to shine so brightly that the sun, and the moon, and all the stars are meaningless to the bountiful life on Earth.

The truth will forever remain unclaimed. Forever untouched and despised. For truth brings inconvenience. It fosters a sense of hostility between two souls. It reminds all of us of our inevitable death. It reminds us that life is so precious; yet we are wasting it away day-in-and-day-out by working away at a job which holds no meaning to our true community; our true loved-ones.

The truth is harsh.

It is cruel and cold.

Like the nights of cold-sweat drenching your body; it is unforgiving and relentless. Like the days full of addiction and of growing numbness to life; rejection of truth brings about the calamity of your very existence. Like the darkening sky full of dread, or the mysterious secrets veraciously biting away at your soul as you try and reason and bargain with darker realities. Truth untouched is like a baby without her mother. It is like an unheard cry in the middle of nowhere. It is like the blood-thirsty eyes of a feral creature ready to devour it’s prey.

It is like the breaking of glass, as the world comes shattering down upon the weight of our lies.

But…

Once acknowledge and accepted; truth transforms it’s once ugly disguise into a beautiful soul.

Dancing in the light of day, truth can once again show us the way to salvation and holiness.

It can help us become worthy of being named children of goodness. Children of the righteous path – even if it isn’t always the easiest one.

Truth……

Truth can set us free again.
