5 Tips for Setting Goals for the Long-Term

Hello everyone, it’s me again coming at you with another post. Today, I’ll be sharing with you my affectionately named “Golden Top 10 Tips” list for acquiring and keeping long-term goals. The obvious thing that you should likely already know about setting goals, is that you must be consistent with your set goals.

This is a no-brainer, but without argument, it is the one thing that is overwhelmingly overlooked by many people in our world.

To begin, the 1st tip you should know is this one: You need to make your goals in “real-time”. What does this even mean to your or I. Well here’s the long-and-short of it. Too often, we are guilty of making outlandish dreams or too little of a goal that might seem insignificant to us a couple of days later. On one hand, that’s totally fine. In fact, that’s what makes us all thrive and learn in life. You should definitely hold onto your personal ideals close to your heart. But on the other hand, you should also be very careful what you wish for. Things in the world hardly ever work according to the way we want them to work. You must remember that there is always some form of manager, boss, superior above us who gives the final decision on our dreams in the different industries we may be a part of among the world. On a personal note, that’s why I like to keep my dreams to myself (under rare circumstances, I’ll share my aspirations with people in life. But otherwise I keep my thoughts to myself due to the fact that many people don’t want to hear what you have to say. We’re all guilty of this, especially me on most days).

My 2nd “Golden Tip” is: Always be open-minded to making small tweaks here-and-there to your goal. This absolutely, without a doubt in my mind, has to be one of the most intrusive problems people face with their goals. Some people in the world are so incredibly stubborn that they can’t imagine the input of outside advice changing their work. It’s a barrier that stops many people from advancing forward with their goals. The main issue with this one, is that people take every single thing that happens to them, personal. If you want to succeed in the world, you cannot take everything so emotionally wounding. You have to grow a thick-skin in life in order to truly become successful for the long-term.

My 3rd “Golden Tip” is: Learn to say “yes” more, instead of “no”. You need to learn how to expand your horizons sometimes, and learn how to grow your inner-circle of contacts. It’s much easier said then done, but it’s not impossible. You just need to have the right mindset. That’s the key to most success stories in the world. Don’t be so hard on yourself, allow temporary changes to take hold of you, and flow with life. Otherwise, if you are way too stubborn, you’ll never see any results because you’re so against change. Here’s the best way I can put this: the people in positions of power don’t care for any of us, they would rather us stay stubborn and ignorant. Start to be more open and learn to not be so judgmental or resistant to change or new people/places.

My 4th “Golden Tip” is: Make time for others. Now I don’t expect you to clear out the next two months on your business calendar; I’m just asking you to be flexible with people who you not only like as a friend/acquaintance/contact, but also so you can potentially gain an invaluable person in your life. Whenever I think of my older brother, I feel a little bad. He doesn’t have a lot of friends, he doesn’t like to go out much, and he doesn’t speak with strangers all that often. But, I have hope that this will change one day due to the fact that I’ve begun to see an ever-so slow change in his behavior. But the point that I’m trying to make, is that change should never take countless years. Life is short, remember; so don’t let it pass you by just to stay in your “comfort zone”. Be a bit risky, do something you wouldn’t usually do in your everyday life.

Here’s my 5th Tip: Go sightseeing or hiking near your home. This one has helped me considerably over the last couple of months. I find that even hiking twice a week has given me a lot of stamina. This helps, in turn, to do more work-related things to better my own personal brand and career online. Not to mention the sponsorships I’ve begun to receive on YouTube (my YouTube channel is: R.S. Noel. If your curious). Of course, it also does wonders for your health. You’ll begin to see real-world results that begin to change your personal life in many different ways that you may not see at this very moment. See new things and going to new places will remind you what your true purpose in life is.
